January 19 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Celebrate the Ukrainian Christmas season and one of the most important holidays of the eastern Rite. Divine Liturgies will occur in historic churches followed by a unique water blessing at the ice cross. Visit heritage buildings, participate in the burning of the didukh, and observe a house blessing. Afterwards come to the Silska Domiwka – the Red Barn – for a traditional meal.

The Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society (FOUVS) is a not-for-profit charitable organization formed in 1984. The Friends plan and execute educational and cultural programming which advances an appreciation of Ukrainian Canadian heritage of east central Alberta, operate essential services at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and raise funds to ensure that UCHV can complete its mandate.
Some of the cultural programming that the Friends Society provides are:
- Week long Summer Day Camps
- Ukrainian Music Fest
- Harvest of the Past Food Festival
- Interactive Displays about Ukrainian Canadian immigrant life (circa 1920s) for Community Festivals
Some of the essential services that the Friends Society provides are:
- Hiring historical interpreters who portray the lives of the original inhabitants of the houses, farmsteads and business that populate the Village.
- Food Services
- Museum Shop
- Village Market
Besides providing essential services, FOUVS mission is to financially support the Village. Each year, the Friends Society plans a number of fundraising activities and actively solicits donations. Over the course of thirty year of operations, FOUVS has funded essential research (structural, material and narrative histories) for many of the buildings at the Village, paid for transporting and restoring buildings. In 2014 we began to fund the restoration and purchase of furnishing and artifacts to complete the final stage of developing the Village. In the next couple of years with your support, we can complete the Village and re-imagine its future.The Society has more than 600 members and welcomes you to join us.
