Congratulations to the all the members of the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Board of Directors who were elected at the 33rd Annual General Meeting. We are still looking for a secretary for the Society and encourage members to apply.
Join the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society! Your membership allows us to support the completion of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and to provide essential services at the Village (food services, museum shop, summer programs for children).
Membership gives you free admission to UCHV plus a 50% discount on admission to most Alberta Museums and Provincial Historic Sites.
Other benefits include discounts on programs, subscriptions to Society newsletters and publications, attendance and voting rights at the Annual General Meeting and the opportunity to contribute as a Board Member or member of a Standing Committee.
The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society has developed a new committee structure to better meet the needs of the Society both in this current period and for the future. Our hope is that this structure will allow the Friends’ Society to grow and be better equipped to address the opportunities and challenges of the Society and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village.
All members are invited and strongly encouraged to apply to serve on a standing committee that best reflects their skills and interests. If you know of someone who would make an excellent member of a committee – please encourage them to apply. Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest along with their resume that lists their skills and achievements which correspond with the committee they wish to serve on. In order to serve on a committee, individuals must be members of the Society. You can become a member by applying online through our website or by calling our office.

Join us for our final special event of the season and witness traditional harvest activities from the period of 1892-1930.
Visitors will be able to view an old-fashioned threshing bee in operation and see costumed interpreters re-enact agricultural methods of harvesting complete with vintage farm equipment and grain deliveries to the historic elevator. Other historical activities include sickle/scythe cutting and bundle tying, stooking, flailing and winnowing, flower and herb drying, feather stripping, making kisla kapusta (sour cabbage), grinding wheat, baking using a pich and canning of produce from the museum’s heritage gardens.
Wagon rides and other authentic activities in the historical village will allow visitors of all ages to share a sense of the Ukrainian settler experience in east central Alberta.
This is a day out for the whole family with a number of other activities available including:

Experience a unique blend of traditional and contemporary Ukrainian-Canadian musicians in live concert at the Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society’s 2016 Ukrainian MusicFest on Sunday August 21 at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village! This year the Ukrainian MusicFest presents an outstanding line-up of Albertan musicians who range from groups playing polkas, waltzes and kolomykas to bandura players evoking the distant past to folk inspired contemporary fusion.
The main stage live concert is presented by 840 CFCW and host Steven Chwok. It starts at noon. The 2016 concert line-up includes: Millenia, Albert Billey, Don & Noreen Klym, UB, Diamonds, Trembita, Sparkling Tones, Alicia & Stephan Slusarchuk, Dynamics, Polka Ramblers, Five Star, Andriy Hornjatkevyc, Chychul Orchestra, Paul Kobasiuk & Friends, Cimmarons, Still Born and Jimmy Watsko
Bring a lawn chair and your dancing shoes to swing to your favourite tunes on an outdoor dance floor.
A village market with courtyard musicians, and children’s activities such as a jumpy castle, complete this entertaining day for all the family. Please arrive early to avoid line-ups at the front admission gate. Those arriving early can participate in a pancake breakfast from 9-11am.
