Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society

Term: start May 8, 2017 

Hours of Work: 35 to 40 hours/week. Food services operates 8 am to 6 pm. Part time hours may be negotiated. UCHV is opened 7 days a week – weekend shifts are required

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (located 25 minutes east of Edmonton on the Yellowhead Hwy 16) is an award-winning provincial historic site showcasing Ukrainian settlement in East Central Alberta (1892 – 1930).

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of all food products as per training and specs
  • Maintaining a sanitary and organized work space
  • Knowledge and adherence of basic food safety standards – training will be provided
  • Handling of cash, and daily reconciliations
  • Proper handling of product with due care and respect
  • Working in a safe and effective manner
  • Cleaning and maintenance of kitchen space and equipment
  • Daily set up of public and private spaces relating to food service
  • Commitment to quality service and genuine care for guests, and coworkers, experience
  • Positive attitude with a strong desire for constant improvement and development

Qualifications & Assets:

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution with the intention of returning in the fall or acceptance to a post-secondary institution in the fall is required. Studying in a field related to food preparation or tourism and hospitality is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ukrainian-Canadian culture and food an asset
  • Experience in food preparation required
  • Self-motivated and highly energetic
  • Ability to learn and retain information
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and to lift 20 kg
  • Outgoing, polite and friendly; must enjoy dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Mature and responsible attitude
  • Must be comfortable working independently, as well as in a team
  • Valid Class 5 drivers’ license is an asset
  • Standard First Aid is an asset

Notes: A security clearance is a condition of employment.  Successful candidates will be required to obtain a Security Clearance (Vulnerable Persons) from the police. Candidates must provide written documentation verifying that they are in compliance with legal requirements to work in jobs outside of post- secondary institutions in Canada at the time of their application for employment. All references will be reviewed.
